In actual fact this unusual behaviour may be with good reason. In his defence, he rarely does anything WITHOUT having reasoned extensively beforehand. This is in stark contrast to my consistent lack of forethought before acting or speaking, which often goes some way to explain why I come out with comments such as “no – cream of tomato soup is so-called because it’s got cream in it” (apparently it’s because the tomatoes are ‘creamed’ or pureed. WHO KNEW?!) The aforementioned good reason is due to the recent news that we may at last be in a position to start house hunting here in the good ol’ South of France. Exciting times!!
Having started to browse the various ‘immobilier’ sites and local magazines, we’ve realised that both of us would like a renovation project to get our teeth into (forget living in a campervan for 6 months and not killing each other. This could be make or break…) Properties that require a lot of work in our locality seem to be few and far between however. Leave the coast behind and head inland mind you, and crumbling barns are scattered far and wide, surrounded by huge plots of land, outbuildings and amazing vistas! But I digress.
Holiday homes represent a majority of the real estate. Amazing, sprawling houses are often inhabited for a mere 3 months out of 12. Outside of that, our choice is limited mainly to apartments, which neither of us really want (oh to have stairs) and which come with hefty building maintenance fees, not to mention the lack of opportunity to change much about the layout. So a house would be a joy. One we could leave our stamp on would be a dream.
Without wanting to jinx us, we’ve… no, wait. What am I saying? That WILL jinx us…. We may have an iron in the fire. But you’ll just have to wait and see…
